I've been playing ultimate for a couple months now with some guys from the office (and another company in our building). We're getting to the point where we're too good to concentrate entirely on the backhand, but none of us really know how to throw a forehand properly so we can't teach each other. Do you know of any resources to learn the forehand properly, especially any with videos that show the right way to throw one? Thanks a lot!

Gday Ryan,

There is a free handbook you can get on PlayUlty.Com that explains a bit about both the forehand and backhand throws:

http://www.playulty.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=29

They also have an educational DVD called Play Ultimate and Beyond The Stack that explains the game, including video demonstrations of various throws.

Cheers and good luck!

I learnt to throw from this one:

http://www.afda.com/trashtalk/showarticle.php?articleid=30

But i think the only thing it misses in there is that you in the 'peace' grip you can bring your index finger back in to get more power, but less control. same as index on the rim control backhand vs. 4 fingers on the inside power grip on the backhand.

Thanks much. Those links already helped my throw out. I'm picking up that video as well, so hopefully it's good.

At this point, I can throw it pretty accurately and without wobble indoors. Next step is to make it work for me outside and to get good distance on it.

You can also try our DVD, available on http://www.howtothrowlikeapro.com. There's sample footage on the site as well.

I have a series of videos online that teach you how to throw. Here's a good one discussing spin and power of a forehand:

Good luck!
