i've always wondered about the practicality of the thumber or wrist flick in game.  i've seen it done, and i guess i don't see any situation  where instead of a thumber you can't just flick it.  the only thing i can think of is when you wanna just have a quick release up the line or something, but i'm thinking the flick would be just as good and much more accurate.  i just learned the scoober and my team knows thats my go to throw for a break now as i can break FH side force w/ my scoober w/ good accuracy and backhand with a backhand, and scoober is also a great throw to learn because in certain situations you can catch it and put it up to a second cut very very quickly.  hammer is good, but i don't use it very much at all(maybe once every 5-6 weeks) because its normally windy here, and if it can't get there w/ fh or bh, or if i'm in a situation where fh or bh isn't possible, i look for a dump or a short cut. i hate turnin over the disc, so i just don't throw them.  sadly, the push pass wasn't in there...it seems much more practical than those(besides scoober or hammer).

thats my input with my limited year or so of exp.

The throwing advice on one of the ultivillage DVDs is pretty sweet. It shows Jeff Cruickshank from Furious throwing a 40 yard lefty thumber at regionals.

I think the thumber is a valid throw. A righty thumber curves the same way as a lefty hammer, so it can be used in the same situations. Though most people would just throw a flick in that case, the thumber is affected by the wind differently than the flick. I have also thrown a thumber in a game for a score, so that's pretty sweet for me.

I can throw my thumber about 10 metres further than I can hammer at the moment (broken finger), so to me its a go to throw for that same blade and stop that you get from a hammer.

Most of the time, a flick is as good, but not always.
