HorrorZontal Alums around the world UNITE in celebration. Just as our beloved Jayhawks are going to win the NCAA tourney, the Zontal Legend crew took down Fools Fest 27. Wahoo! The Zontal Legend crew had great numbers (28 or so) and only lost one game all weekend. We were up against some tough competition at times, but the young graduates pulled through with some stellar play. (And as a side note, Ernie (aka Ern-dog) was there as well on Saturday. Although it was only for a game, he did cleat up and played one point, thus securing his continuing legacy of playing in every Fools Fest since 1983. Nice work Ern-dog!)
I should also mention the sweeeeeeeeet victory Zontal Legend had over the current HorrorZontal squad in the annual Alumni Game. The HorrorZontals came out STRONG taking an early 4-0 lead. Zontal Legend called a timeout to refocus (I think our heads were on the forthcoming Jayhawk v. Tarheel game). We scored the next point, but the HorrorZontals continued to play beautiful Ulti, taking half 7-2.
Much changed in the second half, however. Zontal Legend pulled of a few back to back points closing the gap. But the HorrorZontals continued their dominance stretching the score to 10-4. Zontal Legend had to search deep within for the fire, and they found more than a little flame inside. Without hesitation, Zontal Legend scored and scored and scored again. Before the Zontals knew what hit them, it was 12-12 DOUBLE GAME POINT!
Zontal Legend fires off the pull and sets up their D. The HorrorZontals looked a bit shaky, probably from the shock of even being in this position. And bam, it happens. Turnover close to their endzone. Zontal Legend picks up the disc, moves it with icy perfection and SHAZAM...game, set, MATCH! Zontal Legend 13 - HorrorZontals 12.
All in all, the weekend was an absolute treat. Much to our surprise and joy, the weather in Lawrence was absolutely spectacular. Glorious sunshine both days, without a single drop of precip falling down. Thank you Rain Gods for your absence.
The party at the Granada (or should I say the entire length of Mass St) was utterly insane. It seems word got out about how great Fools Fest really is, and approximately 30,000 extra revelers decided to join us. That, or the Jayhawks SMASHED UNC and ol' Roy Williams. I'm not sure which, but I do know I personally dished out about 4,000 high fives that night. Check out the mayhem for yourself:
http://www.youtube.com/v/zJWe1rOPCXQAll-in-all a great weekend. Kudos to the TD (Rook Dan) and his helpers for making Fools Fest 27 a total success.
ROCK CHALK JAYHAWK!
