For practicing, I'd focus on the basics.
Catching and throwing: Run the Seattle Drill over and over.
Marking: Teach how to mark and then run the 3 man drill.

http://www.ultimatehandbook.com/uh/As for "boots for the players", if you mean cleats, then that's a very person-specific thing. I've gone through a few different brands before settling on what I like, Gaia's.
In the beginning phase, any old soccer or football cleats will do. Main thing is that they have some form of (non-metal) cleats, and they are comfortable.
