I'm assuming this won't be a super high level of play?

For practicing, I'd focus on the basics.

Catching and throwing:  Run the Seattle Drill over and over.
Marking: Teach how to mark and then run the 3 man drill.

can't seem to remember where to find links to these specific drills, but this site has oodles of useful info for the basics and basic strategies.

As for "boots for the players", if you mean cleats, then that's a very person-specific thing.  I've gone through a few different brands before settling on what I like, Gaia's.

In the beginning phase, any old soccer or football cleats will do.  Main thing is that they have some form of (non-metal) cleats, and they are comfortable.

here is a good link for soem drills. some are more complex than others and you definitely will need to focus on the basics first. you said you played for four years, are you going from high school to college? hre is the link and good luck. one thing you need to think about if how many times a week wil you expect them to pratice? we only do two (now only once) a week. i would say three times at least. just tell the people to go try on random cleats and see what they liek the most.
