Title: Tournament Dates
Post by: Tiger on August 06, 2007, 10:50:48 AM
What's the best (or the optimum) time of year/date to host a tournament in Australia?

I was thinking about it, there's a lot of stuff on the AFDA website about how to plan and what to expect, but the date of the tournament would surely be just so vitally important, because tourneys can't function without the player base...

So when's good? The Bathurst folk inspired me to one day organise a tournament. Maybe give back a little bit to the Ultimate community that I've taken so much from. And I mean that literally - I have someone else's Terrigal Towel shirt.

Well, a weekend where there is nothing else is a good start.

Try to make the tournament appropriate for the rough season.

Late Jan to lat April is serious open and women's tourney time.
Mixed and University season then roughly takes over from May until Mixed nationals, which seems to have settled in October.
Then the social ultimate season begins in full, lasting until Late Jan. Most of the major hat tournaments and other fun tournaments happen in this period.

Of course, there are some tournaments that don't follow that logic, like terrigal.

Aside from all that its nice to have good weather...
