What's everyone's take on the new league?

So no one has any thoughts on the new league?

I dunno about you guys but I'm really excited.

I know it's not perfect and they are still ironing out a few bugs but I really like the direction and I'd be both willing to play in the league and help support it in whatever way I can.

One thing I have mentioned to a few of the local Aussie guys is to get onto Facebook and "like" the new league's facebook page to help spread the word and get a bit of exposure for the new venture:

Yes I love it!!  Our sport is finally going to get the notoriety it deserves.  I love how the field is larger...I certainly know I feel constrained at times because they feel narrow.  I'm not quite sure how I like the idea of 4 quarters and attacking the same endzone for all of 1 quarter though.  But, I do like the penalties!  A 10-yard penalty for lifting the pivot foot probably won't happen during pro ultimate...but who knows!

I know I'm going to be trying out for the Indianapolis Alleycats because they're only an hour and a half from my hometown!!!!!

Let's hope so.

See I'm the opposite, whilst I like the idea of bigger fields, I just like the idea of the playing area being lengthened to 80 yards, I'm not so sure about the width being 53 yards, maybe 45 or 50 yards, but 53 yards is A LOT wider and my fear is that it may completely eliminate certain defensive strategies (ie zone).

I think more people travel than anyone realises, it's just so hard to catch someone doing it during the game.

Nice! I have been bouncing some emails back and forth with a number of different owners and I think the Indy owner has been one of the most responsive, seems to be pretty organise and is taking the 2012 season pretty seriously.

It also sounds like despite the fact that Indy isn't renowned for its ultimate that they still have quite a few decent players looking to play with the Indy team.

I think the AUDL is a great idea.  I remember the MLU having a crack at it.  They had refs who even did the stall count for you.

As far as I can see, the only differences between the AUDL and normal Ultimate Frisbee rules are:

1) Bigger field
2) Four quarters
3) Penalties (lose yards)
4) Unlimited subs during timeouts
5) 7 second stall count

The big question I want to know is:

Will they have refs?

If so, what is their exact role?

Also, will these games be televised in some way?  Streaming over the internet?

One thing I REALLY liked about Canadian Nationals this year was in the Championship game, they brought in a real sportscaster.  He wasn't an Ultimate guy, but you could tell he really knew how to call a game and get the viewers into it.  I think the AUDL should follow suit.

Overall though, I'm excited.  Especially that the championship game will be played in the Silverdome.  BOOM!  8)
