Title: National League Update
Post by: Seppo on March 05, 2007, 10:43:52 AM
Anyone have any news on the NL?  Any changes from last year's format?

Well, aside from NUFL being post-nats, nothing has been confirmed.

After Worlds, there has been a little bit of a frisbee drought...aside from regionals and nationals there have been practically no tournaments organised. Canberra is running eastern regionals so no april fools, no seeds/fields of doom, no gong or newwie tournies (aside from terrigal of course)

Discussions involving the format for NUFL have included merging it with the '08 selection camps, playing it as an 'elite' hat with the top 60-80 players in the country going wild, reshuffling the old teams and playing the regular NUFL format and Chilly longs for the teams and format to stay the same, to continue old rivalry.

On the teams front, manly has reformed, albeit a weak variety. Abra and Jimmy are at the helm of the neo-southside team called barefoot. Sasha and Pottsy haven't registered on any of the various regional teams, so I suspect they are both taking a brief playing break. Deathstar is (as expected, post-clubs) history and I suspect if the gong, newwie and ACT ever try merging again it will *not* be under that name.

Vic juniors and some old hands (Owen S, Piers, Rueben from Qld) are forming an anti-Chilly in Victoria, should be a good team in little time.

Tassy girls have a team this year. Joy Lee and Larissa Arney have returned from the UK and joined the new Melb team, "Team Box"

Ahh, its all in the article on the AFDA front page...

Don't expect them to enter NUFL though.  Cost is WAAAAY too prohibitive for any tassie team to enter NUFL unless there is some serious cost-sharing going on, and I don't think that's likely to happen any time soon.

Oh sorry, my post from the part "On the teams front" just went off the NUFL topic, I should have made that clear...

No one has any idea of how the teams for NUFL are going to turn out. There is talk of making the teams more state based and less club based but ppl aren't so keen

There's been nothing in Victoria because of the drought, meaning there's not really anywhere to play that isn't rock hard, or resembles a beach.

Also, Team Box defeated both Ishtar and Honey on the weekend.

For more information visit Heads Of State (http://www.headsofstateultimate.com)...  and we're already a good team!

Not specifically 'anti-Chilly', but when there's only one other mens club in Victoria there has to be a rivalry.

Is there a mens club in Australia that isn't 'anti-Chilly'?

No, there isn't.

And as a helper/volunteer at Southern Regionals, I find the HoS website very funny.  Good, well designed, and funny that anyone would take a regionals tourney so serious as to have a "countdown clock".

edit: Shit.  Is that all.  I've still got dozens of things to teach my team...  ;)

Not long now Joe.

You've got to take Regionals seriously if you want to go to Nationals.  :)

And thanks for the compliments about the site. Between now and Nationals there will be a proper site.
