I think Ultimate has to be the single most addictive sport ever.  Those who get hooked, get hooked for life.

I think as the sport moves closer to the mainstream the eccentricities (clothing, games, cheers etc..) will continue to disappear.  Especially as the older folks who remember those days begin to drop out of the sport.

Personally, SOTG is more about being a self-officiated sport where (most) players are doing their best to not intentionally  break the rules and play a spirited game. The same can't be said about most other sports where the philosophy is more about getting away with breaking the rules to gain the advantage when the official isn't looking.

Techinically, yes.  Although the defensive player should not have picked up the disc.  If the offensive player did not want to be the thrower in possession, he should have instructed the defensive player to put the disc down at the point of turnover (wherever the disc came to rest)

I love shots 3 and 4

The look of surprise, then happiness as the catcher catches it and the look of frustration/despair as the receiver misses

without a doubt, GLUM is going to dominate.  They have yet to lose.

8  General / Ulti Talk / Re: gloves? on: October 13, 2009, 11:45:51 AM
I have some Nike wide receiver gloves.. not sure of the model name as they don't seem to make them anymore.

Pretty sticky, but still I don't wear them ever on my throwing hand as I don't get as good a grip.  In fall league I often wear the left handed glove for help in catching as I find they're awesome for catching.

I bet someone there would have lots of great info for you.

Here too:

but every other sport has some type of accuracy trainging net... why not ultimate???

It does, a disc golf basket Tongue

Build your own Disc Golf basket Smiley

It will work much better than a straight net.  A disc golf basket is a 360 degree net rather than a "2 dimensional" net.  You wouldn't be able to throw curves into a "flat" net.

I haven't been to this tourney yet, but Gender Blender is a notoriously fun tourney/event

I do all of that. I'm just vertically impaired. I can't read the disk that's 30 ft over my head and still run at the same time.

Tracking a disc directly over your head is definitely more difficult.  I guess it comes with time, but you should be thinking of running to where the disc is going to be rather than follow it, if that makes sense.

Spin, angle of the disc and strength of the throw is obviously going to determine where it lands.  It's much easier to put your head down and run like you're on fire to that spot, turn and read a disc that's now coming towards you.
13  General / Ulti Talk / Re: Cleats on: September 15, 2009, 12:54:44 PM
Nike's are narrow, so if you have wide feet you usually have to bump up a half or full size.  I just avoid them
14  General / Ulti Talk / Re: Cleats on: September 04, 2009, 04:45:57 PM
nice, thanks.

Looks like the 3.0 model won't be out until November, and they don't have the 2.0 in my size... the 3.0's look pretty sweet though.

Any clue if they ship to Canada?
