16  General / Ulti Development / UPA Grant Recipients on: February 10, 2010, 09:57:54 AM
http://upa.org/grants/recipients

Here are the list of new projects this year that the UPA is supporting.
Let's hope we can actually see the results of these unlike many in the past.

I think the UPA should have better public access to the projects so that we can results and materials.
Many of the past projects never even got started...

19  General / Ulti Media / Flyer Design for College of the Ozarks Ultimate on: December 18, 2009, 01:44:06 PM
Here is a flyer design for the College of the Ozarks Ultimate team the flycats.
They are a small team but wanted to give them something catchy to use for flyers/posters.

Let me know what you think. Pictures arent the best but thats about all we have right now.
Wanted to keep it simple, no blocks of text, just bullets, etc.

Thought those 5 points kept it clean, quick, and simple for the casual reader...

Anyway, thanks!

I hope my final layout is when I'm 93 and playing in the Grand Grand Masters in Antartica(Global Warming) at the 2080 Olympics on National TV, or whatever form of media will rule the world then..."Holographic Mental Image Displayer",
straight to the brain broadcast, and I layout catch for the winning Callahan Universe Point!

Thanks guys for all the comments...

Seppo, good feedback thanks, I am looking at revising the phrase.

I like the phrases, I'm weary of using Ultimate related phrases because we are trying to appeal to the non-disc related folk, but I like them.

I will def. take them into consideration about taking one from the bottom.

Thanks again, I will post a final layout.
22  General / Ulti Media / Re: Poster design for weekly matchups. on: December 17, 2009, 11:21:08 AM
yea this is a very low res PDF, (under 350k) for Ultitalk.
so the text is nice and clean in the file.

thanks for the comments, the black circle was just an idea and i was trying to come up with a short catch phrase, but never could settle on anything...

"one time only", (but that wont necessarily be true), "watch it live", etc. i dont think its necessary but thought it would add something, trying to mimic something of the 1960's era,
they always had over-the-top catch phrases that didnt always hold true, "greatest fight on earth", "best show ever" etc.
23  General / Ulti Media / Poster design for weekly matchups. on: December 17, 2009, 09:58:31 AM
This is a poster design idea I created for a weekly match up of local college teams that we might be doing in 2010.
Let me know what you think and if this would appeal to the common spectator in a local coffee shop or wherever those common spectators hang out.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Keep it up, make it consistant. Pick a day to play and keep doing it. No matter the numbers. 3s,4s, 5s, 2s.
Theres games and things to play for any number of players. So dont just say ok, well lets go home if only 4 people show up, throw around, make up games, look up games from the web.

The closest tourneys to me have always been 2 hours minimum. Its definitely worth it.
Send emails to the Ultimate people close to you in that next town, tell them your story, and they will help you out.
Start picking up with them as much as you can. Try to meet halfway somewhere and play games. If they have a consistent following they should be willing to drive to you on occasion.

Tell your friends that a "team" from another town is coming to play a scrimmage and people will start to get excited about it.

But its true, show them some youtube videos or DVD first and get them pumped up.

My personal favorite is Above and Beyond http://www.ultimatefrisbeevideo.com/
Its older but the quality of presentation on that video is much more entertaining than any UltiVillage DVD I've seen, personally (havent checked out the new Club one yet).

It also has good introductions to Ultimate and how to play and such. Great highlight clips and great stories.

Good luck, yes where are you located?

Managed to hit the final game for the BorderBrawl in KC.
The fields were nice, weather was great, very windy though.
Not a lot of people hung around to watch the finals but there were a few fans.
Managed to catch Axl throwing up a couple of times, awesome, he still had his shirt off though of course.

It seemed to go smoothly but that was just the one game. Colorado won it pretty easily 11-8 hard cap.
27  General / Ulti Strategy / Re: 3 on 3 on: November 09, 2009, 11:12:22 AM
cant say theres a lot of info on it but Ive played in a 3on3 before and I would say a lot of give and go's work.

its easy to burn your defender but you have to do it quickly.

no one person will be a handler either, everyone touches it a lot, and you have to make quick cuts and the timing is important as well.

because if you get stuck or cant cut in for a few seconds, then you only leave one other option for your handler.

think of your offense as a revolving door, everyone moves in and must cycle around to keep it going. find your force side and just keep moving it up field.

those are just some suggestions.
28  General / Ulti Strategy / Re: Mixed Strategy on: November 05, 2009, 09:49:10 PM
another thing about women handlers is they're usually much more patient as well, this goes along with canis comment.
if you can free up another guy in the stack by using a really good women handler than that can help a lot as well.

other simple things like, alternating women/men in the stack is another thing we do, just to even up the field space and timing.
