I know Slow was missing one of the patisteas twins for some of their tourneys.  I dunno, they haven't had a really strong season, but they've been doing progressively better at every tournament.  But I've got friends on the team, so I am totally biased Wink.

Who isnt biased? lol

I have friends on OTP as well. It would be awesome to see them do it, Im just crazy pumped up they made it and will have that experience for the rest of their lives.
Those are def. things to tell your kids  Grin

OTP beat CLX 15-8 at The Rock in the finals.
It was intense and OTP took over after half pretty nicely.

Not an official game, but OTP beat them in the showcase game at Heavyweights as well.

in honor of your suggestion NickyD

we might pass these out around college campuses but probably not the elementary kids  Undecided

One Trick Pony has a great shot at winning the series.

Ive seen them roll over CLX and I know they can take AMP if they show up.

If the OTP team shows up and plays like they can, they have a good shot to take it all.

"I'm down with OTP, One Trick Pony!"

Alright everyone,
time to be creative!

Our Ultimate organization is trying to come up with a slogan to put on a new banner and to possibly use for years to come.
We want it to be something that can appeal to people who know nothing of Ultimate but also something that is catchy and good for everyone.

Currently it is "the #1 source for Ultimate in Southwest MO"...catchy isnt it??

So here is the current banner we have designed with our slogan, any creative geniuses out there?

"The best sport you've never played" ...??

38  General / Ulti Talk / Re: gloves? on: October 12, 2009, 10:55:05 AM
a few of my friends wear batting gloves for handling.
they say it gives them just enough warmth without compromising the feeling of the disc on your hands.

since they are always tight and not as thick as some of the football gloves they said it lets them feel the disc better and said it only sticks on the hand just a few out of the many times they play.
even when it does stick they say its not enough to make a bad throw, just not usually as spot on or hard as usualy at minimal times.

hope this helps, i dont personally wear gloves but my extremities dont usually get too cold Smiley
39  Regional / North America / Re: CUltimate tourney in Kansas City? on: September 28, 2009, 02:06:30 PM
Whats the word on CUltimate?

It looks like they might have done a little to work on the UPA relationship.

Looks like they now help manage tournaments that are UPA affiliated?
How does this help the process? What are the benefits?

From what Ive heard CUltimate usually puts on crappy tourneys, and they only get the Elite teams by paying them/giving them free bids.
Whats going on currently with them? Anyone know some factual information?
40  General / Ulti Talk / Re: Cleats on: September 14, 2009, 02:14:51 PM
Oh, I'm a bit worried about the sizing now, but like I say a 13 is what I wear in my basketball shoe and in my soccer shoe, both made by Nike. It's not the end of the world if they don't fit, but I really don't want to have to wait another 6 weeks for a 2nd delivery.
youre probably good if you kept it consistant with Nike sizing
i hadnt had Nike cleats in a while
41  General / Ulti Talk / Re: Cleats on: September 14, 2009, 10:24:46 AM
I didn't really have the option of trying them on, football cleats don't really get sold over here. I play a lot of basketball and exclusively use nike shoes (jordans) for that, I went with the sizing for those and for nikes soccer shoes to make a reasonable guess at the size. I went with a 13, if they don't fit I can always buy a new set and sell my first set to one of the football teams in the UK, I'm sure they'd sell pretty easily.

I ordered my usual size in these (Nike Speed TDs) and I had to take them back at first. I ordered a 10.5 (which I usually where in non-Nike cleats) and they were too small.
So I then bumped my order up to 11.5 and they fit great. I probably could have squeezed in a 11 but I went ahead and skipped a size. So yeah Nike run small normally.

Hope this helps.

43  General / Ulti Talk / Re: improving catching on: September 09, 2009, 01:17:59 PM
I would say just practice more and just reading the disc.

Try a huck drill:
line up with a partner and have another handler huck the disc down the field.
Try to out read your partner and catch the disc. The more you do this, the better you will get at reading it.
This also improves your intensity and catching skills.

Another thing to note that a lot of people overlook is what was mentioned above is the spin on the disc. As the disc is coming in take a look at it.
You want to almost let the disc come in to your hand. ive seen a lot of drops where people will almost try to stab at the disc, or poke at it and it will usually end up in them hitting it down more like a D then a catch.
so let the disc come in to your hand and let your hand stop the spin firmly and you should grab it more often.

Fourgon, Did you mean the Nike Speed TD?

If so, I have a pair right now.  Beware though, this is not the cleat for you if you have flat arches like me.  I bought these cleats a few months ago.  They hurt my arches.  I was told by teammates to "break" them in.  I did and it got a bit better.  However, I think I am now suffering from some sort of stress injury on the bottom of my right foot because of these cleats.  I'm not saying it's a bad cleat, it's just not right for me.  My previous pair of cleats were Nike Mercurial Vapors and they were GREAT!  I just wish they weren't $200 USD.  Ouch!  Shocked

As for removable insoles, the Nike Speed TDs do have them.

Good luck!

- Seppo #22

Would removing the arches and replacing them with flat ones fix the problem? Other than the arches how good of a cleat are they? Everyone raves about them.

I love this cleat, although I have a normal arch, not flat footed. i can see how this would be a problem though if you do have flat feet.
the arch is something i love about this cleat to be honest with you, its the main reason why these cleats are so comfortable. ive never had cleats with this nice of a support.
i can see why they would hurt you. i would try removing the arch support and replacing them with something else.

i love the Speed TD, i wont buy anything else unless something unexpected happens to mine.
45  General / Ulti Development / Promotional Events/Recruiting Techniques on: September 03, 2009, 05:58:08 PM
I would love to start a post with different events or techniques that people had on recruiting mainly in the college scene.
I would love to hear some new ideas on what different programs do to recruit players.
Ive been a college coach for a while at a very small school in MO. We have small student body, little resources and such.
Has any body had experience with an event that promoted Ultimate on campus? Any body seen some awesome ways to promote Ultimate on campuses?
Im not talking about hanging flyers, sending emails, Facebook groups and such; I would love to at least get a running list of ideas for everyone to read and try out at their respective schools.
If we can get a nice list it would help Ultimate around the world.
