1  General / Ulti Strategy / Re: "Ten" or "stall" at the end of stall count on: April 19, 2010, 06:51:15 PM
I remember questioning that myself a bit ago and I had to look up that very rule about the vocalizing of "ten" so now I always count "stalling one, two" that way the stall doesnt extend the time im counting, but I was wondering if this is offically a legitament way to count stalls?

I think you can either go two ways either the 3-2-1 or the 1-3-2 depending on what your team composition looks like. I know our school team sometime ends up with 6 on 6 pickup and we are blessed with a extremely conditioned hustling player. When he is on our team I find the best defense to be the 1-3-2 because since he is able to usually keep up with the disc we can use the rest of our team to fend off any real up field throws.
The 3-2-1 is pretty standard, of course you have to worry about the swing pass but thats with any cup zone. You just need to make sure you are containing the disc behind your first or second line. With the cup our team sometimes would force to the middle, almost elimating the swing, but this will require strong play from your mids. You will also want to make sure you have a stud deep defender since hes back there alone and since forcing middle might open up a deep throw.
I would just try to think about how your team will play and pick one based on what you have. Besides I think thinking about ultimate is almost as fun as playing ultimate!
3  General / Ulti Strategy / 5 on 5 on: April 11, 2010, 07:39:13 PM
We have a 5 on 5 tourny coming up for my high school team. I really like running stacks in 7 on 7 format but does anyone have any advice on how to plan a stack for a 5 on 5. Is the stack even beneficial for these games? I prefer the horizontal stack but i think that would be even harder to pull off then a vertical stack in 5 on 5.

We have a 3 on 3 tourny coming up for my high school team, we have practices once a week and I use the last one to just run scrims of 3 on 3. I know conditioning is going to be huge but other the that is there any other big factors in a 3 on 3 tournys or any strats to run?
5  General / Ulti Strategy / How to teach on: August 08, 2009, 12:42:25 AM
Most of my team is going into senior year and i think we have a great shot at winning our local tournaments, but last year we relied on athleticism to propel us to fourth and third finishes. I want this year to be different, I want to introduce offensive set-ups. I was just wondering if anyone else has been through this situation and could tell me how they got their team to understand the spread, vertical, and/or horizontal offense. Could you maybe pick one and then give what you would do to teach each of these. Also with the vertical i have problems with everyone advancing the line up the field. Seems like once the disk gets infront of the handlers everything goes to hell.

7  General / Ulti Strategy / Re: Quick Vocab Question on: July 28, 2009, 01:04:30 AM
Conservation of Greatness, thats nice. Im going to use that when i go over it with my team.
8  General / Ulti Strategy / Quick Vocab Question on: July 26, 2009, 12:18:14 AM
Not sure if this is just a local term, but could someone give the reason a team would shout it. Seems to be when one of their handler has the disc. Does it have something to do with the wind or is it to tell them to slow down the pace?

frisbeeclothing.com looks great. I do have no idea how to order a custom product from there.
