31  Regional / Australasia / Re: The Road To Melbourne - 2008 university ultimate on: September 04, 2008, 09:37:05 AM
Mike Tarn is the only eligible guy on our team, and Rachel Melrose the only girl. Evryone else has played nats/mixed nats/worlds. So looks like they are sydneys nominations.
edit- sorry, simon baume is to.

Wows. Must feel nice. In contrast, our whole team is eligible except for myself, Henry and Tom.
And apart from Rosie and Mel (who graduate this year), everyone else are first years, so it'll be hard to pick a 'future star'. *Thinking caps on*

So Tanty, in conclusion, Henry and I are right and you're wrong.
Have I missed anything?

34  General / Ulti Media / What does a 'typical' ulty player look like? on: September 01, 2008, 06:19:44 AM
So I'm doing a frisbee related project at uni. And part of that is that I need to do research into Ultimate (sub)Culture.
To start off, can you, the helpful Ultitalk poster, include a picture of your 'typical' ulty player or describe one. And maybe if you're feeling reaaally helpful, you'd like to differentiate them between gender, nationality, etc. Like does the male Aussie player look/dress differently from an American or Japanese one?

Thanks!  Grin

Can anyone beat only doing 1/3 of a subject in a semester? ie 2credit points

No, but I'm totally the opposite. I'm doing a single subject that's worth 24credit points!

( Embarrassed it's 2am here in sydney, and i'm wasting time on ultitalk instead of trying to finish this stupid assessment )

Hmmm, I'm by no means an authority on this but I don't think USyd would have enough quality players to form a second squad, especially females. From the numbers we had at tryouts it's theoretically almost possible but there's no point taking two slightly undermanned squads when you can take one awesome, max-size squad.

ok. i was assuming everyone in your massive league teams wanted to play AUGs  Undecided
but if they did, you could still send an awesome team (if you think they could take home a medal) and a development team. And like what Tigger said, it would be good for retaining females in the future.

Are any unis entering more than one team at AUGs?
Teams are allowed to enter multiple teams these days, right?
I was mainly wondering about Syd Uni, who have looooots of players.
And I heard on the grapevine that Flinders might do it.

@Ash + Brettski:  How do you go about finding a sponsor? And we have to play in the sports union's shirts, so we can't get sponsor logos printed on them or anything.
44  Regional / Australasia / Re: The Road To Melbourne - 2008 university ultimate on: August 12, 2008, 09:27:49 AM
Awww... thanks Bretty! You deserve a hug!  "S-L-U-T-S, I say S-L-U-T-S!"  Yeah by some freak of nature, our AUG team actually resembles our ECC/EUGs team for the first time in like ever.

Mac are out - same reason as UQ.

Not really, but I thought I'd chip in.

And i'm pretty sure Tigger was kidding.
45  Regional / Australasia / Re: Mixed Regionals - players needed on: August 11, 2008, 08:56:43 AM
I heard on the rumor mill today that it has been said that beginner/not very experienced teams shouldn't go to Regionals, etc.

Really? I read in some document or something that mixed nats isn't supposed to be super elite like nationals but more of an inclusive thing. And yeah, if people get beaten a lot, I don't think it'd sap their spirits. For instance, Special Sauce started last year as a random last minute pickup team. We got thrashed at regionals but managed to win one game to scrape into mixed nats. Then at mixed nats we improved so much, beat our seeding and even beat a team that we lost to at regionals. Now fast forward to 2008, and 80% of the team is still playing Sauce.

So um yeah, back to the the original topic of this post... Any girls want to play regionals?  Grin
