I've tried for SOOOO long to increase the range of my forehand huck.  I know it's not a muscle issue because I've seen plenty of guys skinnier than myself able to forehand huck it further.  My backhand huck is solid and I can get it down the field at will, but my forehand is mediocre at best.  A little background.  I use a 2 finger power grip and can throw very accurately with confidence up to about 30 yards.  I see guys forehand hucking it down the entire field and the velocity and range of their throws simply dwarf anything I can do.  It's strange but my forehand hucks seem "slow" in some sense.

Anyone else run into this issue and figure out what is wrong?  Do I have short fingers?!

This will be a random educated guess having not actually seen you throw.  But I'll give it a shot.  Since you say it seems "slow" could it be that perhaps you are "pushing" the disc with your forehand (kind of as if it were a baseball) instead of truly flicking it?  I'm not talking about your grip, I'm talking about your wrist.  When you initiate the throw is the disc in front of your hip or behind?  If you initiate the throw from behind your hip, chances are you're not getting enough flick action, not enough spin, and therefore not as much distance.

Spin is supremely important!  In a study of novice vs experienced throwers, the velocity of the disc leaving the hand was THE SAME for both groups.  How crazy is that?  What makes the difference between novices and beginners is the spin and the angle of attack.  I wrote up a summary of the research http://www.ultimaterob.com/2009/12/31/surprising-findings-from-the-world-of-biomechanical-analysis/ for UltimateRob.com if you want a more in depth explanation.

haha, i'm really skinny and i throw 100 yard flicks...

first off, the most important part is your wrist snap. that can make or break the distance that the disc will travel. if you have a problem with the disc turning over, try dropping your throwing arm lower. this will force you to throw a hyzer so when your disc tries to turn over, it'll just flip up. also you might want to use a 2 finger fan grip right before you throw... I know your probably thinking why you need two grips. the fan grip will keep the disc in a better position then you trying to hold it with the power grip. when you start your throw slide your fingers into the power grip.

i learned how to throw my huge forehand from playing disc golf... disc golf and ultimate can help you train for each because there are so many similarities. Discs in disc golf are the same weight of a frisbee, but they're more densed and easily move 3 times faster than a frisbee. plus disc golf discs are 10 times more overstable. you have to have power to make those discs go straight.

I play on my colleges B-team as a handler(working very hard to move up to the A team) and I too have been looking for ways to increase the range on my flick side. One of the best handlers on the A-team gave me a tip a few weeks back about thinking about how to envision your throws. There's a point in the throw at which the disk stops traveling forward by force and is carried by lift and spin the rest of the way. One way is to think about how you want your throw to act up until that point at which the spin takes over. It helped me a little bit and now after a few weeks of practicing it, I've gone from a 45-50 yard flick huck to around a 60-70 yard flick huck, depending on the look. And also do exercises to strengthen your wrist and forearm.

Guys, sometimes I find people overcomplicate things when the key to developing a better throw is going back to basics. Just like Tiger Woods has completely changed his swing a few times in his career, sometimes we need to break our throw down in order to make it stronger.

I did a video a few months ago discussing spin and power of a forehand and how they are independent but when you combine them together, you'll have the best throw.

One of the things that's really helped me is tightening my grip.  This helps increase spin because it requires more force to come out of your hand. 

Another tip is your step.  Assuming you're right handed, keep your right foot back and then step forward into your throw.  This sounds pretty basic, but getting your forward momentum going will help your hip turn, which ultimately will give you more torque in your mid section.

Hyzer is a disc golf term.  In the ultimate community, it's called an I/O.  Throwing the Inside/Out will give the disc more carry.  The faster you throw the flick, the more the disc is gonna turn left (assuming you're right handed), so to compensate for this, start the disc out with an I/O flight pattern.
