East London Ultimate is going to be holding a tournament on the 24th June to 26th June. The question i would like to pose is, regarding tournament organisation. There will be 12 teams. Now to get a winner from this i was thinking of splitting into two pools of six where a round robbin will be played and the top two of each pool will go into semi finals then finals so each team will play around 7 games over the 3 days. Does this sound excessive?

We are also going to incoporate a new tournament rule regarding points - Standard rule is you play till 15 points scored. They way we plan to work it is you get 3 points for a win and 1 point for every 5 goals scored so you can get maximum points of 6 (3 points for win and 3 points for 15 goals scored). This will force teams not to give up if they are trailing by a big margin as they too can get points even for a loss.

I would like to know the general feelings on this.

I like the points idea.  What a good way to encourage teams that are losing to keep the dream alive.  It would be interesting and ironic if during a late stage game it came down to not which team won, but whether one team could get to 5 before the other team got to 15. 

As for playing 7 games over 3 days, that's just fine.  I've played in tourneys where you play 7 games in 2 days.  If you have 3 days of play available, I would actually probably have 8 teams qualify for quarters on the last day. That's only 3 games in the final day for the eventual two finalists, and less for those that don't make it that far.

My 2 cents anyway.

Thanks for the feedback I really appreciate it. We have been playing the points rule in our league and it seems to work quite well. I will look at putting a quaterfinals in. Thanks
