I regularly play with middle school and high school kids, and they are learning to throw/catch/etc.  In that, we often have someone throwing a disc from their endzone (after the other team missed an endzone pass for instance) and upon throwing it, it gets blocked, or just ends up behind them/at their feet/etc.  You get it I think.

Anyway, I normally say that the defensive team gets the disc from that endzone, attacking the opposite endzone.  Is that right?

I just read the rules about the "Callahan" which I had never played.  This situation is similar, except on the opposite end.  In football, it would be a Safety, and the other team would get 2 points.  In Ultimate, there is no such rule.

How is that play scored?

Thanks.

i think (80% sure) its just a score and you get 1 point and then you pull it like you would have if you got the D and then the score

This is incorrect.  Team A is on their own endzone line and the disc lands in the same endzone.  Team B will bring the disc to the endzone line closest to where it lays and tap the disc in to start play.  Points are only scored if the disc is caught in the endzone.  If the disc hits the ground, its just a regular turnover.

A callihan is a prestigious thing in Ultimate.  Team A throws the disc and team B intercepts the disc in team A's endzone, resulting in a point for team B.  Callihan's are most common after the pull when the pulling team sprints down the field and intercepts the pass.

I hope this clears things up!
