Ok, this is done on RSD a fair bit, and I think it is a good thing.

Not knowing hte pool of competition that well, but knowing enouhg, I will put my calls out there.

Now, I don't know how long hte tournament is or the formet, but going to guess round robin with semis and final.  So here goes nothing.

Australia and Japan cruise through round robin with the big matchup being between these two powerhouses of pacific ultimate.  I will say that it is hard fought, but give japan the advantage of winning this meeting.  They have home ground advantage, or at least don't have to travel as far and probably got a fair bit more training.  I will put Phillipines v. Singapore to be the other big match up of round robin.  Those two teams are scrappy and will push teams to their limits if you don't respect them.  This puts Japan v. Phillipines in one semi, and Australia v. Singapore in other semi.  Of course from this, we get the rematch of Australia v. Japan in the final.  This time, however, the Green and Gold brings it.  Going to make a guttsy call, but will put final score at 15-12 to Australia.  I think we all know that the Asia/Oceanic representatives are a great and extremely talented group, and can rest assure they will come home with Gold.  Good luck kids, we are routing for ya and send our love!

Any news on how they went in the final? Had a look around the website but no idea what any of it says.

Yeah so Japan knocked us over. 15 to 11 in the final.

Congratulations on what sounds like a top effort team. Next time hey! Those Japanese teams have it coming to them.

Thanks for the good wishes - we had an awesome time.

It was a great time to play with - I must admit I was a little apprehensive having not met some of the players before let alone playing with them. Thankfully my worst fears were not realised and Woodley and Sweet As could actually play a bit of ulti Smiley

A bit more detail on the final... it was very different from our round game against Japan. In the round game we let Japan get ahead fairly early on so were playing catch up ultimate for the entire game. Japan also executed brilliantly on their hucks and we couldn't really force the turns. The final however was very close for most of the game, while I don't think we ever had the lead we were always within striking distance. I struggle to remember the finer details, I think it went something like this, we started on offense and scored, Japan converts straight afterwards to make it 1-1. Japan gets a break, and then we trade for a bit. I think they get a second break and we call a time out. We had been using our tall guys quite a lot early on, far more successfully than we had in the earlier game however things were beginning to misfire a bit so we talked about trying to use the rest of the team (yes that is a snide comment from a short girl Smiley ) We kept things tight for the rest of the half which Japan took half 8-7. I can't remember when in the game they happened but Rueben got a couple of excellent layout blocks, as did Kwong. Waz and Tom picked up high D's on a some of the Japanese hucks, which we were managing to pressure. Unfortunately with the mirror half Japan was on offense and scored to make it 7-9. We got a break at some point as the score got to 12-11, one of those goals was a very swilly blade I threw to Waz over 3 Japanese guys. I owe him a lot for catching that swill. We had the disc twice to make it 12-12 but failed to convert both times. From there we didn't score again, which was of course unfortunate and made the game appear less close than it was. There were a lot of layout D's from both teams which made it an exciting game for the spectators. I know Mel said in the article on afda.com that they could only count 3 throw-aways - I suspect it was probably more than that, depending of course on what your definition of a throw away is! A reasonable number of points had multiple turnovers. The game went almost exactly for 90 minutes. There was one unfortunate moment where there was a rather prolonged rules discussion, which got resolved amicably but stopped the game for a good 2-3 minutes. (rather similarly to the 3/4 playoff where the final point was stopped for over 5 minutes during a discussion)
The game was televised in Taiwan so hopefully we will get a copy of the DVD.
