Hey guys. My name is Branden Steinberg, I am currently a freshman and going to the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, USA. I am traveling abroad next semester to Wollongong, Australia, and I'm looking for a team to pick up with. I played for Needham High School and we went to Easterns (like nationals) and tied for 3rd. I also played for the New England YCC team (junior club) and finished 2nd at YCC Nationals. Currently, i played for Zoodisc at UMASS. Since I won't have a vehicle because I'll be traveling abroad, what are my options for teams? I've heard that the open teams are currently playing, so I will have to play on a mixed team. What is the highest level of play that I could participate in. Most likely it will have to be in Wollongong unless I can get rides to somewhere else. Thanks!

July - November is mixed season in Australia. Uni of Wollongong haven't had a team go to AUG (College Nationals) since 2005 so I don't know if they're still around. Wollongong do have a mixed team they send to Mixed Nationals which is in late October. From the experience you have I don't think you'd struggle to make that team. Best person to track down is Tim Booth.

Wollongong is about a 45min train ride from Sydney, where about 1/3 of all Australian ultimate players live and play, so you might be able to get some regular play up there.

Go to http://www.afda.com
Hit the big red button that says JOIN. This will give you an AFDA number that you need to play anywhere in Australia.
Once you are logged on, do a Member Search for Tim Booth or Andrew Craig. They're the main men up that way, and they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Alternatively, go to Tournaments > Register. That shows what tournaments are coming up. Check out Midwinter Solstice - that's in Sydney at the end of the month. Try emailing one of the team captains and see if anyone will have you. Also the NSW Mixed Championships - Wollongong will have a team in that.
